This was my first long walk of the year, well longish anyway! After weeks of snow, I was stunned to see such a turn of weather (and I hear at this point in the year more may be on the way!) So much so was the change in weather I managed to capture the rare coloured blue sky on camera!

The Park is a favourite of mine and I visited many times before(if you have read my blog before you would know!). Making our along the river and then through the nature reserve (being careful!) a way I had been before, we ventured on further. The area seemed well looked after, logs were cut down properly, the bridges looked after, strange looking fences and notices everywhere – not the wild woods that I would have expected just the orderly woods – perhaps that better 🙂 In fact in one of my photos I am sure I have two butterflies… but I would love to hear from anyone if they see them or not!
Once trhough the reserve we reach the old Watercress beds and we came across an old Motorbike…. Again, what kind of bike is this? Looks like some kind of WWII bike to me? But I am no expert at all!. We then walked up to the Grand Union Canal. On Crossing the bridge I had a total shock, I thought it was sunny and bright it was obviously still ICE cold in the water

Still shivering at the thought, we walked on past Cassio Bridge Lock 78 (Iron Bridge Lock 77 is the one in Cassiobury Park) towards Croxley Green way. On the other side of the canal dozens of canal boats were moored – a canal boat marina. We made our way under the metropolitan line bridge and large road bridges, It was then onto very long stretch of canal.
The thing that struck me most was the quiet. No canal traffic either. Even the swans were quiet. The ice that we had noted earlier had mostly melted but as we reached the end of our walk, I suddenly thought it was a bit odd that a bird would be standing up in the middle of canal (unless of course it was try to walk in faith!) I realised it was iced up again and we were near a lock – Common Moor Lock.

Apart from the barge being repainted it seemed their had been no canal traffic to disturb the canal here. It was a lovely part of the word here, in fact when we investigated the moor someone was flying a model airplane!
We then decided it was about time to head off for a drink – so to Croxley Green pub it was – nice way to end the walk (and yes we walked it back to watford after!)
